I've recently purchased a long arm quilting machine so I'll be writing about that as well.Yukihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16302379511310174265noreply@blogger.comBlogger33125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1526839679551752804.post-2282682725861940842011-09-25T13:52:00.000-04:002011-09-25T13:52:23.949-04:00Quilts & Kitties

Life just gets in the way and next thing you know days pass and you wonder what have you been doing? I had been so busy focusing on work that life was passing me by. I’m taking a little time off to do some fun stuff. I have a couple work projects coming up but before I get swept up into it, I’m going to have some fun.

I just took my first quilt off the long arm frame and it is soooo cute, even if I do say so myself. I just love pink! I got this big print from JoAnns, didn't want to use my good fabric. I just outline quilted the hell out of it. It was so much fun, once I got the machine threaded correctly.

They talk about tension how important it is and it is. Well, I kept sewing and crawling under the machine to look underneath and kept swearing at all those loops. Where did they come from? I kept adjusting the tension and finally it was a tight as it would go and I still had loops. I was really swearing then. I looked at the machine and looked at the diagram and everything looked fine. So I took the thread off the machine to check out the spool and realized that the thread had not gone through the tension disks. I couldn't believe it. I felt like a silly fool! Anyway, once I got it threaded, set the tension correctly, everything was just fine.

Another thing, "they" talk about, is how you need a good extra 4 inches of fabric all the way around for the border. I always thought that a waste of good fabric. Anyway, as I was sewing along one edge or trying to, I realized that the clamps holding the background fabric taut were getting in the way. That's why you need the extra 4 inches....duh!!

I ended up with a bit of distortion on the side where the clamps got in the way and had to pick out those stitches. I just thought, I'll quilt that part and the sides on my regular home machine. I stitched one flower and it took forever and thought, this is too hard. I'll put it back on the long arm and quilt it downstairs. So after I sewed all around the edges and squared up the quilt a bit, I put it back on the long arm and was done in just a few minutes. Since I had sewn around the edges, I didn't need the clamps to hold the backing taut.

So now I am spoiled. I'll never machine quilt anything on my home machine. Looking back, I think about all those quilts that I spent hours quilting on that thing. Never again. I know a lady who has a long arm in her living room and one in her dining room. Now I know why. She said they weren’t using it anyway. Hhhmmm I can’t remember the last time I used my living room.

I'm very happy with the way my little quilt turned out. It will make a nice baby quilt. I'm cheating on the binding. I didn't feel like spending time making bias tape, so I got store bought. Am I bad or what!! I'm just itching to quilt the next quilt. LOL

Here’s a picture of the quilting on the back. It’s not real clear but it looks good for a baby quilt that will get lots of washings. There is no way that thing is coming apart. From an artist’s point of view, I wish I had used pink variegated thread. That would really look cute on the back. Those flowers would really pop. I could use green on the leaves and it would be really stunning.

Well, I can’t have a posting without my kitties. A couple nights ago, I was cleaning this pink container and left it in the bathtub to dry out. What is it about boxes and kitties? Simba & Snowflake were fascinated by it. Snowflake was way too big to get into and Simba insisted that he was going to try it out. He spent an hour scratching at it, inside and; out, I’m guessing to try to make it bigger. He even tried digging under it. You can see how small that container is compared to him.

He got tired and eventually gave up. The tub is his favorite summer time place to sleep.

Last night, he made it into the container. He is the cutest little guy.
He's my shadow.

I really enjoy quilting, so I think this machine will provide me with many hours of enjoyment. Hopefully, I'll make some additional income to help pay for it. That would be nice, too. Can you imagine? Getting paid to do something that you really love and enjoy? Eventually, I would like to do machine quilting for other folks, maybe even lease out the machine by the hour. As a quilter, I love the satisfaction of doing the whole thing myself. Unfortunately, hand quilting takes a long, long time, so quilting machines have become a necessity.

I've ordered a 65" square whole cloth quilt pattern. I can't wait to get it. I'm thinking that by the time I finish it, I'll be an expert machine quilter. I thought I had a rather stifled childhood. This book is an autobiographical account of her life growing up, "a searing memoir of growing up poor, hungry and sometimes homeless". It was stunning. It was amazing that someone survived that kind of upbringing and still managed to be a productive member of society. This book also brought to light the existence of people who choose to be homeless through their actions or lack there of. There is an interview of Jeannette Walls online from 2005 if you are interesting in hearing more. It was very interesting to hear her talk about her life. She shows no bitterness towards her mother, who is shown at the end of the interview. Her mother seems excited to be able show the interviewer her paintings.

My friend Valerie came up for a long weekend visit this past weekend. We drove to Pennsylvania to visit a friend. We stayed in Lancaster, not realizing that fabric shops are closed on Sundays. oh well Maybe we can fabric shop next time. We had a makeup day at mall and then it was time for her to go home to Charleston. You know what they say, the road between good friends is never long.

I haven't done much sewing lately but have done a lot of beading. I made a handful of glass bead bracelets. They aren't as colorful as stuff I usually do, mostly blues and greens. Maybe I'm in a blue period. I just bought a blue hand bag. Anyway, I'll try to get some photos up soon.

ttfn :) Yuki

Yukihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16302379511310174265noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1526839679551752804.post-48162421030931866522010-04-27T00:23:00.018-04:002010-06-18T13:29:31.872-04:00Busy Busy BusyIt's been a while since I last posted. I have been busy! There was a ton of work waiting for me when I got home from my trip. It took me a whole day, just to answer work email. What a PAIN!

It took a few days to get my suitcase unpacked. "In 1937, Shanghai is the Paris of Asia, full of great wealth and glamour, home to millionaires and beggars, gangsters and gamblers, patriots and revolutionaries, artists and warlords." I'm really interested in reading other books by Lisa See. Apparently, there are quite a few. I picked this book up at Costco because I thought the cover interesting. I'm not really a big holiday person but seems holidays are the only time I see the extended family. It was nice to pull into the driveway and see my daffodils and forsythia in bloom. My azaleas are budding and will be blooming soon.

Went to Charleston to see my pal Valerie. We had planned to go to Atlanta but changed our minds and drove up to Asheville, NC to visit the Biltmore. If you've not been there, it's a sight to see. This house was built around the turn of the century and has gargoyles! This house had a staff of 21 maids & servants. It is supposed to be the first house in the United States that had a heated indoor swimming pool complete with electric lights on the bottom. Can you believe it?

The Vanderbilts lived on the main floor. Beautiful wood carvings and mouldings were everywhere. There is a huge music room complete with pipe organ. It was amazing. Elaborately turned out guest rooms were on the second floor complete with individual bathroom with running water, toilets & bathtubs.

Of course the floor where the maids lived were very sparse. No bathrooms for them, just chamber pots & wash basins. Talk about class distinctions!

The male staff members lived about the stables, so there was no hanky panky. "as if" (That's valley speak for "Yeah Right".) LOL

I had recently read the House at Riverton by Kate Morton. What a great story. It was quite easy to imagine the folks at Riverton living at the Biltmore or being a guest or perhaps one of the characters being a maid.

The Forgotten Garden also by Kate Morton was an excellent story. I read that last year when I was sick with a bug. It made laying around in bed not so terrible.

On my drive down to Charleston, I had to do a conference call with work. Can you believe it? What a way to start a vacation.

I listened to Valerie Bertinelli's book. She talked about her relationship with Eddie Van Halen and her weight issues. She also admitted to having affairs while she was married. I was stunned! I'd be taking that information to the grave.

Anyway, I also listened to David Balducci's, The Camel Club on my drive home. One of the nice ladies who reads my blog recommended it. Also, a great story! I wonder if there is a sequel. These characters are too good to just end.

I picked up these books on CD at the Cracker Barrel. They have a deal where you buy the book but you can return it to any Cracker Barrel and get your money back. They just charge you $3 for each week you have it. What a deal!

This has been a long week of work. I spend most of Monday answering email. Of course, I had to deal with email while I was off. Is that sad or what?

Have you ever had a dream that was too good to be true. I had one this morning. I was getting a massage by that very handsome blond haired guy from Spartucus, Blood & Sand, that show on Starz. We were having a nice time and my roommate's mother comes in talking about coffee. I don't even have a roommate but got rid of the roommate's mother any way to get back to my massage. It's time to turn over and Blondie leans over and rubs his face next to mine and is blowing in my ear. I couldn't figure out what he was trying to say with his whispery breath but it's fun anyway.

Then I open my eyes and it's Simba rubbing his face on mine. It's 8:30 and I'm an hour late getting his breakfast. All the other kitties will let me sleep in but Simba is insistent that he gets his food on time. Breakfast at 7:30 am, dinner at 6pm. Oh well, the dream was nice while it lasted.

Today, I'm back doing house stuff, talking to contractors about the work that needs to be done to repair the damage done during the blizzard and grocery shopping for the Stitch and Bitch group coming tomorrow.

It will be nice to do some sewing and bitching. Wish ya'll could come. LOL

ttfn :) YukiYukihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16302379511310174265noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1526839679551752804.post-73587977854003176142010-03-25T10:31:00.003-04:002010-03-25T10:37:22.822-04:00Porsche Take Me AwayI'm leaving in a sports car, don't know when I'll be back again. Oh, Babe, I'm glad to go. LOL A little poetic license there. I'm taking a road trip to Charleston to visit a friend and then we are driving to Atlanta. Yay, us. I'll be back next month. Does anyone know any quilty shops in Charleston or Atlanta?

In the meantime, Happy Quilting.

ta ta for now :) YukiYukihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16302379511310174265noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1526839679551752804.post-20089793084653229722010-03-23T21:49:00.002-04:002010-03-23T22:19:27.820-04:00Susan won the booksSusan from SewManyThingsToSay won the books from this past weeks giveaway. So Susan, send me your snail mail info and I will get those books out asap.

As a follow up on my previous post about misfortunes in shopping, I wanted to thank everyone who emailed and/or commented. I was a very loyal customer of that shop and to be honest my feelings were hurt.

July 1998, I moved from the Washington, DC metro area to San Francisco. I had to come back to DC one week out of every month for business. I made it a point to stop at that store to shop every time. I buy fabric whenever I travel but I really did make a special effort to visit that shop. Anyway, I did that until Jan 2000, when I moved back to the DC area.

I sent my Stitch and Bitch group an email about my experience and one of the members tsk tsk the whole thing and cc'd the store. One of the store owners sent me a very nice email and promised me a gift certificate as well as a new punch card. Well, imagine my surprise when I found a very generous gift certificate and a full punch card in today's mail.

So maybe I'll got back after all.

I have no pictures to post. I've been washing and ironing fabric. Boring!

I'm making those star blocks that are the BOM from the Quilt Show. There are a million half square triangles used to make those stinkin' stars. Now I love star blocks, but good grief, why use so many half square triangles when you can make flying geese blocks. There are so many **** seams, that cross each other that they were driving me nuts. When you have 8 seams crossing at the same point, they do not lie flat for anything. I steamed those blocks to death to get them to lie flat and they won't. Then to add insult to injury, when I measured the finished block, it was a quarter inch short in all directions.

Now, I sew a scant quarter inch. I know because I always check.

So, the next block, I decided that I wasn't going to do all those **** half square triangles. I re-worked the pattern so that they would be as few seams as possible. Smart! huh?!? Well, I still had a couple places where too many seams crossed but not nearly as bad as the first block. I used lots of steam to get this sucker to lie flat and I still was not happy. I measured this block and again, it's a quarter inch short.

I'm getting pretty pissed off and can't figure out what is going on. I make another half square triangle to test. Measure twice cut once. Finger press, measure, everything looks fine. Press again, with lots of steam and measure and it's a hair or 2 shorter. I am using the Kaufman Fusions for these blocks and it's shrinking due to all that steam. Can you believe it?

So, rather than continue on, I washed all that fabric. There are 11 yards of beige, plus another 22 yards of colors. The pattern said to use a half yard of this color and a quarter yard of this color, which is similar but not exact. Anyway, they had like 30 colors. I could only find 22 that I liked and I bought 1 yard pieces. I think this is an awful lot of fabric for a quilt that is supposed to finish 84 inches. Is this insane or what? Anyway, I'm thinking that someone goofed somewhere but I would hate to run out when I am halfway through. At the rate, I am going on BOM's, I won't know until sometime in 2014. Kaufman may not even be making Fusions anymore.

I kept some 2.5 inch strips aside to compare against the washed and pressed fabric and there really is a noticeable difference. But, I still love the way the Fusions look. Even after washing, the colors are still true. From a distance these fabrics seem to glow. I'd thoroughly recommend them.

So that is my rant for the day.

ttfn :) YukiYukihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16302379511310174265noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1526839679551752804.post-70311158006922709172010-03-20T11:33:00.003-04:002010-03-20T11:54:22.413-04:00Misfortunes in Fabric ShoppingI had an unfortunate experience yesterday at Capital Quilts in Gaithersburg and I guess I'm interested in reading other people's opinions.

This store had been my favorite for many, many years. Over the years, I have spent way too many $$$ there. I was there Sunday, with Jane and bought well over $100 in fabric. I had purchased 5 yards of a particular beige for the background of a quilt that I am making for an online BOM.

I got home and found that the instructions require 10.5 years of background fabric. That seemed like an awful lot but I stewed about it and decided to bite the bullet and go back to and buy the additional fabric. Better too much than not enough. I certainly don't want to get into September and run out.

Anyway, I took a swatch with me to match and apparently did not do a good job. I picked up the wrong bolt and asked for 6 yards. The lady cutting looked at the swatch also and said that they matched. 2 sets of eyes are supposed to be better than one. Wouldn't you think that someone working in the store would be more familiar with what they had in stock? I also bought another 4 yards of other stuff while I was there.

I paid for the fabric and went to the bathroom. Right next to the bathroom, I saw the fabric that was a match. I brought the new bolt to the counter and asked to exchange. They said no.

I couldn't believe it. I've been a good customer for years. I was upset. One of the owners of the store was there and said it looks like I am drowning in beige. I was not amused. As I stood there at the counter, I looked at the fabric that I did buy and noticed a flaw. I pointed it out to the lady behind the register and she said, 'What do you want me to do about it?'. I was stunned and said I didn't know. Well, the lady walked away as I just stood there. I waited a few minutes and she was off in another area of the store sorting fabric. Did I say I was stunned?

I picked up my stuff and left. I was totally pissed! I drove a couple blocks away and fumed and came back to the store. I had a punch card from that store that was almost full, worth $26. I really did want the other beige that did match.

I got another 6 yards of the beige that did match, used my punch card, and charged the balance on my visa card. They wanted to give me another punch card. I told them to give it to someone else. They got me for about $300 this week but I will never spend another dime there.

Now my question to you is, How hard would it have been to take the 6 yards of fabric and make a swap? How many times have you been to a quilt store and have seen multiple pieces of the same fabric on one bolt? I didn't think this would have been a big deal. They were both very similar in color and the same price. Is this worth losing a good customer over? Was I being unreasonable?

At any rate, this experience put my ego in check. I was arrogant enough to think that my loyal patronage was worth something. Silly me.

ttfn :) YukiYukihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16302379511310174265noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1526839679551752804.post-35652402015963254532010-03-18T13:07:00.004-04:002010-03-18T13:16:28.727-04:00Quilt Label Books to GiveawayI am giving away all these books next week. Thank you very much, Zlaty! She has a great blog. I enjoy her pictures and seeing what she is up to. She is a recent winner of one of my Mariner Compass block kits. I'm anxious to see her finished work.

I have to pass this award to 7 other bloggers:

Victoria over at BumbleBeans, Inc
Marj over at Eclectic Quilter
Wanda over at Exuberant Color
Jackie over at Canton Village Quiltworks
Abbe over at Copper Patch
Jenny over at Elfantz
Sue over at Alderwood Quilts

I'm also supposed to tell you 7 things that you don't already know about me. You folks probably already know more than you care to but here goes:

1 I have an adult daughter. Yes, I know, I am much too young. LOL
2 My daughter has 3 adorable boys. Can you believe it?
3 I drive a sporty car when the weather cooperates. When it doesn't, I drive an old raggety SUV truck.
4 I love to travel. I want to see the world.
5 I'm a makeup junkie. I can apply false eyelashes in a flash.
6 I love, love, love shoes, especially high heels with open toes.
7 I'm an avid reader. I'll read just about anything.

A guy I was used to be friends with, told me his favorite book was Confederacy of Dunces. He gave it to me as a gift and it was so thick and long!!! The characters were borish idiots. I did not like the book and kept waiting for it to get better. It did not. I could not figure out what this guy saw in that awful book.

Another friend gave me the Poisonwood Bible. It was so depressing. I kept waiting for it to get better. It did not.

Someone else recommended a Long Walk in the Woods by that Bryson guy, can't remember his name. The main character wanted to walk the Appalachian Trail. I cannot understand why anyone would, when there are perfectly good hotels. I also do not get camping. Anyway, the guy had a tough time finding someone to walk with him. He finally found an unemployed acquaintance to go along but did not seem to really like him. The companion was a lazy somebody. I kept waiting for these guys to have some kind of fist fight and give up and go home. It was not a fun read.

I recently finished Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. You can imagine the tone of the story from the title. Like most Sparks books, it takes place in North Carolina, near the beach. It was an enjoyable read, bittersweet. There are a couple lines that really touched me. If you've ever been in love, these might ring something in you, too.

The female leads writes, "When I close my eyes, I see your face; when I walk, it's almost as if I can feel your hand in mine. Those things are still real to me, but where they once brought comfort, now they leave me with an ache." That guy really gets it. I wonder if he is single. I worked so hard these last few months, my brain is tired.

I've been looking forward to taking this month off but spent the first week recovering or trying to recover. Spent 1 day preparing for a business meeting and another day having the business meeting, 2 days running errands and another day fighting with my insurance company about the damage on my house.

There were leaks every where. Here is Silas checking out a bucket of water. Yes, the bucket did fill and Silas did knock it over. What a mess!!

Luckily, the insurance company did send someone out with these huge dehumidifiers to dry out the house. Snowflake really liked them. They were very loud and they vibrated. She would lay on them for hours at a time. There were 3 of these huge monsters on the main floor of my house. It was so loud, that I could not sleep with them on. I had to turn them off.

The estimate for the house itself was ok, I think but they did not include the motion activated outdoor light fixture that was ripped out of the wall or the damage done to the deck. Good thing I had pictures! I have to call them again because the wood specified on for the deck is not defined as being pressure treated. Who builds a wood deck and does not use some kind of treated wood? That just does not make any sense.
Can you see my nosey kitties looking out the sliding glass door?

I finally had time to spend in my sewing room this weekend. I moved cross country with the x for his job. My father had just died and didn't know anyone in San Francisco where we were moving. I found a lady on the internet, who lived in Canada, who wanted to start a Round Robin group. I think there were 6 of us. I remember 1 lady lived in France, 1 in Maine, 2 in Australia. We followed a book called Rounds of Friendship. This quilt was a year in making but it's one of my treasures. I just love it.

I love hearing from you folks. Post if you want to win the Mariners Compass block kit or the golf fabric. Send me your snail mail info and I'll send your block kit asap.

I've worked my butt off getting my work project done. What a job! Work is really getting in the way of my quilting. Lucky for me, I'll have next month off to veg and play in my sewing room.

Speaking of which...when does a sewing room become a studio? I've seen most folks refer to their quilting area as a studio. The distinction is lost on me. oh well

The weather today has gone up to 48! Yay! Maybe some of this snow will go away. My front lawn still looks like a glacier. Had someone come out and shovel the roof but my gutters came down anyway. Took some of the trim down with it, along with the back porch light and parts of my deck. What a pain! It was so nice to have her here. Not just for shoveling snow. She cooks, too! That big pile of snow on the left hides my truck. She dug it out. Not too many friends would do that.
Jan and I had dinner with my sister, Ruth, a couple times while she was here. Ruth has not seen Jan since, Jan went off to see the world back in 1973? maybe. It was fun reminiscing about when we were young & cute. LOL Jan is one of those people that just picks up where she left off. The 3 of us, hanging out enjoying a meal felt like no time had passed.

We've spent more than the usual amount of time indoors due to snow. Here is Simba helping me brush my teeth. Ice dams on the back of the house that have caused water leaks. I have water stains on the ceiling in my kitchen and the breakfast nook. My gutters look like they are about to fall off. I'll have to give the insurance company a call and see what they will cover. One of the trees in the backyard has been knocked over. I had planned to have it taken down this summer. Half of the tree looks like it was dying. I guess it will just have to look ugly for a while.

I haven't been doing as much sewing as I would like. I can't believe I'm doing this. I have never taken this much sewing out before in my WHOLE LIFE! I can't stand it. I hate un-sewing.

I used to be a very type A person about everything. Everything had it's place and it had better well be there. Everything had to be clean. My crystal sparkled. My desk was neat. Then I discovered quilting.

I used to make my own clothes. I have been sewing since I was 11, which was a very, very long time ago. I was good, even if I do say so myself. I had to learn how to sew. My Mom used to make my clothes. In an effort to be thrifty, she bought 10 yards of black plaid fabric. She made me a black plaid dress, a black plaid skirt, a black plaid blouse, black plaid pants...you get the idea. It was hideous. I had to learn how to sew, to avoid being embarrassed to death. The first dress I made was an orange & white stripe shift with short sleeves and 4 inch slits up the sides. The first time I wore it to school, I got so many compliments, I was hooked on sewing.

There was a lady who lived across the street who had a "real job" at an airline. When I was a kid, women stayed home with the kids. She found out that I sewed. She brought over a ton of fabrics and Vogue patterns. I had never seen a Vogue pattern before. I didn't even know how to pronounce Vogue. She asked me how much I would charge to make these clothes. Not knowing any better, I told her $2 a piece.

I was a dumb kid at 12. I used to watch Man from Uncle and was in love with Illian Kuriakin. When my sister told me that the US had a secret service organization, I told her she was lying. I was as naive as they come.

I sewed for this lady for about 3 years. I learned a lot from those Vogue patterns. This lady was the perfect model. She was tall and wore a perfect size 12 Vogue pattern back in those days. She required very little altering.

I loved making clothes. I loved the couture finishes that the Vogue patterns included. I loved making those nice French seams. I loved that Hong Kong finish on the seams of unlined jackets. I loved hand sewing those little gold chains on the inside hems of the Channel knock off jackets. I loved the rustle of taffeta. Everything about those clothes was perfection.

I, on the other hand was always short with curves. There are not many clothes in the store that will fit this shape. I enjoyed making my own clothes. I had things that were unique and for the most part fit. One of the hardest things to do in sewing is fitting yourself. By the time you are in front of the mirror all pinned together, everything shifts.

When I discovered quilting, it was such a relief of sorts. I could satisfy my desire for perfection in those quarter inch seams. I could satisfy my love of color by putting together fabrics that "don't go together" and then they do. Of course, this meant that I could be sloppy in my "real life". The vacuuming didn't always get done. Dishes piled up in the sink. You could write in the dust on my coffee table. I didn't care. I was in my own little world in my sewing room. Where pieces of fabric would come together in harmony. Everything was right in the world. Didn't I tell you that quilting was good therapy?

Oh, well. I'm optimistic that when these pastel pieces get sewn back together, these piles will be a long lost memory.

So since I am doing so much quilting, I am wearing store bought clothes. Thank goodness for spandex. It helps everything fit and life is good.

Here is a picture of my boy Silas again, playing in the tub.

Don't forget to leave a comment for the drawing. Snowflake likes playing with the bits of paper with the names on them. She just doesn't like having to give them up.

ttfn :) YukiYukihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16302379511310174265noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1526839679551752804.post-31361765934074249262010-02-02T06:23:00.005-05:002010-02-02T07:01:45.304-05:00Retail Therapy is Good For You and Good for the Economy, Too!I posted this on another blog but feel it's worth repeating here. I'm trying to de-clutter and de-stash as some folks call it. I have a ton of UFO's that I want to finish, plus use up some of the stash that I already have. But at the same time, trying to keep all things in perspective. Ok, so here goes:
I've done the math. A visit to the shrink costs about $150 for an hour. You see a shrink about once a week. More if you are really bad off. That's about $600 a month. If you are lucky enough to have good insurance, they might cover about %40. So that leaves $360 out of your pocket.

How do you feel after visiting the shrink? Sometimes better, sometimes worse.

If I go to the fabric shop I always feel better even if I don't buy anything.

I get a break from my problems and when I am on my way home, I find new solutions to my issues and feel good.

If I manage to find something I like, I think about all the things I will make from that fabric. The inspiration makes me feel good and I'm not thinking about my problems. Problems will always be there. Getting a respite from them is important. Getting some distance from them, helps resolve them or find new approaches to deal with them.

Quilting is very good therapy and much cheaper than a shrink. Plus you meet nice people, visit new and exciting places looking for fabrics and in the end you get to have nice quilts.

A post wouldn't be complete without a picture of one of my little buddies. He just cracks me up.

ttfn :) Yuki
Yukihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16302379511310174265noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1526839679551752804.post-13502589567567990842010-02-01T13:22:00.002-05:002010-02-01T13:34:19.553-05:00Snowflake Chooses

Snowflake had great fun sniffing through the bits of paper. I've been trying not to buy anything. I don't need anything.

Back in November, the quilty shops in my area had their shop hop with 12 stores. I bought stuff in almost every shop. I didn't need a single thing but when I see color, something happens. I get carried away. The next thing I knew, my cart was full.

I just wanted to pick up a little something for a friend. I hope she enjoys what I've selected.Anyway, the shop hop stores were giving away patterns & fabric if you made a significant purchse. I have too many.

This is block 6 which I just finished.

So here is a close up of block 6.

My friend Jane is also doing this quilt. She has long since finished her blocks & is working on the borders. I asked her how she did the little bird. She embroidered it. I was determined to applique this thing. WHAT A PAIN! I hate those little tiny pieces. I hope it doesn't unravel. I'm concerned that little yellow basket may need some yellow topstitching or embroidery to show up when this is all finished. Oh well, I'll deal with that later.

Simba likes to help while I sew.

I worked on the jelly roll quilt.
